TikTok is a social media video app, available worldwide on iOS and Android. Users create and share short videos on TikTok. TikTok was launched in 2017 by ByteDance, a company headquartered in Beijing, China.

TikTok is the most popular app on new downloads this year, after Facebook, in the category of social media. According to Sensor Tower data, TikTok was the second most installed social media app worldwide last quarter with more than 156 million installs.

TikTok also exists in China, but with the name Douyin. ByteDance maintains a different app in China to comply with Chinese censorship restrictions. The TikTok is not available in China and its servers are based in countries where the app is available.

In 2017, ByteDance bought the Chinese app musical.ly, a competitor app with 200 million users worldwide. Musical.ly app was merged with TikTok app in 2018.

TikTok is available in over 150 markets, and 75 languages. TikTok app enables users to create short videos of themselves with music in the background. TikTok has filters and special effects. Users can also do short lip-sync videos of popular songs.

Recently, TikTok launched the TikTok Pro Accounts, enabling users to have insights about the video views of their accounts.
