The Guide to Digital Advertising

This guide will bring some overview of the digital advertising ecosystem. Here advertisers can find new marketing channels to explore.

Digital advertising is the practice of promoting products or services through digital channels, such as in-app, in-web, or in-audio, or in-screen, via social media, search engines, websites, digital out-of-home screens, and mobile apps. Digital advertising can be done via various types of ads, such as display ads, video ads, email ads, native ads, and audio ads.

Email Ads

Advertisers can buy ads in email environments via Gmail Ads, Outlook Ads, Yahoo Ads, and other native ads on email services. Almost all free email services are financed with ads.

Email ads refer to promotional messages sent to individuals or groups on email environments with the goal of promoting a product, service, or brand. Email ads can be targeted to specific audiences based on demographics, interests, or behaviors and can include text, images, and links to a landing page.

Gmail Ads is an ad format offered by Google Ads enabling advertisers to display ads in Gmail inboxes of targeted users. Gmail Ads appear as expanded emails in the Promotions tab and look like regular emails, featuring a subject line, sender name, and preview text. With the launch of Discovery Ads, advertisers lost the ability to target only Gmail Ads. These ads are included only as part of the Discovery Ads in Google Ads. Google disabled Gmail Ads from DV360 in 2023.
