Amazon this week announced that Wondery has signed an agreement to join Amazon Music. Wondery is a podcast publisher network in the US, with shows including Dirty John, Dr. Death, Business Wars, and The Shrink Next Door.
Amazon plans to integrate Wondery shows in Amazon Music offering, however, in the announcement, Amazon says that nothing will change for listeners, and they’ll continue to be able to access Wondery podcasts through a variety of providers.
The terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but reports from Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal suggest Wondery’s deal was valued at $300 million.
Amazon launched podcasts in Amazon Music this year, in September. Amazon plans to use Wondery's expertise to accelerate the growth of podcasts in Amazon Music, and to expand Amazon Music offering beyond music.
In February this year, Amazon Music had 55 million listeners and it was testing audio ads.
