Google this week announced the new data safety section in Play Store will go live in February 2022. Google is asking marketers to provide information about their app’s privacy and security practices.
Google is following Apple with the new data safety section in Play Store. Users using Android apps will see what types of data the apps are collecting and sharing, like users in iOS can.
Google also followed Apple, restricting access to the advertising identifiers in Android devices.
What data marketers need to provide to Google? Google says app owners need to disclose the data used by the app’s third-party libraries or SDKs, and may also include whether the app follows certain security practices, like data encryption, provides a mechanism for users to request deletion of their data, is committed to following Google Play’s Families policy, and if has been reviewed for conformance with an independent global security standard.
