Facebook introduces stricter rules for political ads

Facebook announced last week that new ads on political ads will need to be authorized. This new policy will be applied on Facebook and Instagram and affects not only electoral ads, but also political ads – “like political topics that are being debated across the country.”

Rob Goldman, VP, Ads at Facebook, said that “to get authorized by Facebook, advertisers will need to confirm their identity and location. Advertisers will be prohibited from running political ads — electoral or issue-based — until they are authorized.”



Political ads will be labeled in the top left corner as “Political Ad.” Next to it, Facebook will show “paid for by” information. Rob Goldman said that Facebook started testing the authorization process last week, and people will begin seeing the label and additional information in the US later this spring.
