Google Public DNS – 8.8.8.8 – just did 8 years

Google Public DNS – 8.8.8.8 – just did eight years old. Google Public DNS was launched on Sunday, August 12th, 2018, at 00:30 UTC. Today 8.8.8.8 is a primary DNS resolver responding to more than 1 trillion DNS queries every day.



The share of Google Public DNS is above 40% in some countries, including Belgium. According to Google, in places like Africa and Southeast Asia, many ISPs use Google DNS as default DNS server. It’s estimated that about 10% of internet users rely on 8.8.8.8.



Recently, Google saw a very competitive player entering the market: Cloudflare with the 1.1.1.1 server. Cloudflare is fastest than Google and more private, as the queries go over TLS or HTTPS.
