Amazon this week announced a new subscription service offering unlimited grocery delivery for Prime members and customers using EBT cards.
The subscription, priced at $9.99 per month for Prime members, provides unlimited delivery on orders over $35 from Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, and various local grocery and specialty retailers available on Amazon.com. Subscribers also gain access to convenient delivery and pickup options:
- Free one-hour delivery windows (where available)
- Unlimited 30-minute pickup for orders of any size
- Priority access to Recurring Reservations for a weekly grocery order
The subscription is estimated to pay for itself with as little as one monthly delivery from Whole Foods Market or one order under $50 from Amazon Fresh.
In an effort to increase affordability for low-income customers, Amazon offers the same subscription benefit to users with registered EBT cards for a discounted rate of $4.99 per month. No Prime membership is required for EBT users.
Delivery Options from local retailers
The subscription also includes access to unlimited delivery for orders over $35 from participating local grocery and specialty retailers. These retailers include Cardenas Markets, Save Mart, Bartell Drugs, Rite Aid, Pet Food Express, and Mission Wine & Spirits.
Pilot program success
Amazon piloted the grocery subscription program with Prime members in select cities during late 2023. A survey conducted after the pilot program indicated that over 85% of participants were very or extremely satisfied with the unlimited free delivery benefit. Convenience and cost savings on delivery fees were identified as the top reasons customers continued their subscription after the trial period.
How to sign up
Prime members and EBT cardholders can learn more about the grocery subscription benefit and sign up on the Amazon website.
Prime Member Benefits
In addition to the grocery subscription benefits, Prime members who shop at Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market can enjoy exclusive deals, including:
- Unlimited 5% back on purchases made online at Amazon.com or in-store at Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market using their Prime Visa card.
