Cloudflare releases Q2 2024 Search Engine Market Share report
Cloudflare's report shows Google dominates search with 89%.
Cloudflare this week published its quarterly Search Engine Referral Report for Q2 2024. According to the report, Google maintained its dominant position in the global search engine market share, capturing 89.487% of clicks originating from search engines in Q2 2024. This number jumps to 95.138% when excluding Bing, the world's second largest search engine.
Cloudflare's report leverages data gathered from its vast network, which spans more than 25 million internet properties across the globe. This unique position allows them to analyze anonymized data from their reverse proxy, including user-agent headers and referrer headers to estimate search engine market share. However, it's important to note that this methodology has limitations. For instance, it assumes that the average number of link clicks conducted in a search engine visit is consistent across all search engines. Additionally, it relies on the referrer header remaining intact, which can be disabled in some browsers.
The report highlights Google's continued dominance in the global search engine market share, with Bing trailing far behind at 2.750% (11.589% excluding Google). Other search engines included in the report are Yandex (2.691%), Baidu (1.724%), DuckDuckGo (1.003%), Yahoo (0.675%), Yahoo.co.jp (0.413%), Naver (0.383%), Brave (0.237%), Sogou (0.224%), and a smaller fraction of others.
