Google today announced the expansion of its AI assistant mobile app, Gemini, to European countries. This follows the initial launch in February 2024 in select markets.

The Gemini mobile app is an AI assistant that can help users with a variety of tasks, including writing, planning, and learning. It can be accessed through two methods depending on the device:

  • Android: As a standalone app or by setting Gemini as your mobile assistant.
  • iOS: Through a dedicated tab within the Google app.

The Gemini mobile app is currently available in multiple languages and over 150 countries, with more planned for the future. According to Google, the expansion will be gradual and based on factors like local regulations and their AI principles.

To use the Gemini mobile app, users must meet specific criteria:

  • Personal Google Account: You must be signed in to a personal Google Account that you manage yourself.
  • Account Restrictions: Accounts with add-ons like Gemini Business, Gemini Enterprise, or Gemini Education cannot currently access the mobile app. However, access for these accounts is planned for the near future.
  • Age Restriction: Users under 18 cannot access the Gemini mobile app.
  • Android Work Profile Restriction: The app is not currently supported on Android devices managed with Android Work Profiles.

Device Requirements

  • Android: The Gemini mobile app is compatible with Android phones (including many foldables) with at least 2 GB of RAM running Android 10 or later.
  • iOS: No specific device requirements are mentioned beyond having the Google app installed.
