German telcos adopt Mobile Connect, an identity solution with a password-free login

Deutsche Telekom this month announced that the 3 mobile phone companies in Germany are adopting Mobile Connect, an identity solution that provides a mobile-phone-based login. 70 network operators in around 40 countries are using Mobile Connect.

“The introduction of Mobile Connect in Germany is a very important step for both mobile network operators and their customers, as it offers both trust and ease of use in an increasingly complex digital world. The GSMA is pleased to welcome Germany to the growing number of countries supporting Mobile Connect worldwide,” said Alex Sinclair, CTO at GSMA

Deutsche Telekom, Telefónica Deutschland and Vodafone Deutschland are now incorporating the Mobile Connect. With Mobile Connect, users don’t need an email address or a password. Verimi is Germany’s first Mobile Connect partner, with shareholders including Allianz, Axel Springer, Bundesdruckerei, Daimler, Deutsche Bahn, Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Telekom, Giesecke & Devrient, Lufthansa, Samsung and Volkswagen.

Deutsche Telekom says that Mobile Connect could also enable digital identity to government agencies.
