Google this week announced a migration tool enabling Google Podcasts listeners in the US to migrate their subscriptions to YouTube Music or export them for use in other podcast apps. The tool is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
Google is discontinuing Google Podcasts in the US as early as April 2024. The company is making this decision in order to focus on YouTube Music as its primary podcast destination.
Podcasters who have their shows hosted on Google Podcasts will need to migrate their shows to YouTube Music in order to continue reaching listeners.
YouTube Music offers a number of features that are designed to help podcasts grow their audience, including:
- Creation and analytics tools
- RSS uploads to YouTube
To use the migration tool, Google Podcasts listeners will need to open the app and click on the banner that appears at the top of the screen. They will then be able to choose whether to migrate their subscriptions to YouTube Music or export them as an OPML file.
