Google to enforce correct Manufacturer Part Number attributes in Merchant Center
Google this week announced it will start to check incorrect values for the MPN [mpn] attribute in Merchant Center accounts.
Google this week announced it will start to check incorrect values for the MPN [mpn] attribute in Merchant Center accounts, starting next month.
The Manufacturer Part Number (MPN) is a unique product identifier that is used to identify a specific product among all of the products produced by a manufacturer.
Google says that customers may search for a product using a specific MPN, so providing the MPN can help ensure that a product is shown.
Google will start issue item-level warnings for “Incorrect product identifier [mpn]”, starting in August. Warnings will appear on the Diagnostics page of the Merchant Center account.
Beginning in September 2021, the products with warnings will be disapproved.
Google is recommending merchants to review the Diagnostics page to see the affected products, and either provide a valid MPN value or clear the current incorrect value in the product data.
