Luxembourg National Commission for Data Protection fines Amazon in 746 million euros

Luxembourg National Commission for Data Protection last month imposed a fine of €746 million to Amazon European headquarters in Luxembourg, Amazon Europe Core S.à r.l. The decision is related with Amazon Advertising not complying with GDPR.

746 million euros is the biggest GDPR fine to date.

Amazon says it believes Luxembourg CNPD’s decision is without merit and it will appeal in court. Luxembourg National Commission for Data Protection didn’t publish the decision online. The decision was known when Amazon released the second quarter financial results.

“The decision relating to how we show customers relevant advertising relies on subjective and untested interpretations of European privacy law, and the proposed fine is entirely out of proportion with even that interpretation,” said Amazon to Wall Street Journal.
