Shoppable Image ads: Google brings retail ads into images

Retailers have a new ad format that is slowly becoming available on publishers and next year will roll out in Google Image Search. The ad format is called Shoppable Image ads and allows shoppers to see the prices and the items on sale in an image.

Google is working with influencers like This Time Tomorrow blog, where users can see a selection of visually similar offers after clicking the tag icon in the image. Shoppable Images enable advertisers to highlight the shopping ads on curated, published content from Google publisher partners.

One-third of holiday shoppers said they searched for images before they went in store to shop. The growth of “street style” and online influencers all show the movement towards looking at lifestyle images for visual inspiration.
