Mobile App revenue grows by 16.9% in the first quarter

Sensor Tower today revealed estimations on the app revenue at the App Store and Google Play during the first quarter of 2019. The estimation is $19.5 billion for the first quarter of 2019, a number that represents a 16.9 percent year-over-year increase from the year-ago quarter.

Apple’s App Store accounted for approximately 64 percent of revenue, but Google Play revenue is growing faster. Apple’s App Store growth: 15%. Google Play growth: 20.2%.

Mobile games accounted for 76 percent of all app revenue. Apple’s App Store represented 59 percent. According to Sensor Tower, 8 of the top 10 mobile games in Q1 were developed in Asia, led by Tencent’s MOBA Honor of Kings, which was once again the world’s No. 1 earning mobile app across all categories.
