Spotify yesterday announced a new experiment offering video-based learning courses to its users in the UK. This move marks a significant expansion of Spotify's content offerings beyond its traditional focus on music, podcasts, and audiobooks.

The streaming giant has partnered with leading educational tech companies like BBC Maestro, PLAYvirtuoso, Skillshare, and Thinkific to bring a variety of video courses to its platform. These courses cover diverse topics across four main categories:

  • Make Music
  • Get Creative
  • Learn Business
  • Healthy Living

“Testing video courses in the U.K. allows us to explore an exciting opportunity to better serve the needs of our users who have an active interest in learning,” said Babar Zafar, VP Product Development at Spotify. “Many of our users engage with podcasts and audiobooks on a daily basis for their learning needs, and we believe this highly engaged community will be interested in accessing and purchasing quality content from video course creators."

A New Opportunity for Learners and Creators

Spotify's move into educational content opens up a potentially lucrative market. It offers creators a new platform for sharing their expertise and reaching a wider audience. For users, it provides a convenient way to learn new skills and explore interests within their existing Spotify environment.

How to Access the Courses

UK users can find video courses within the Spotify mobile app's home and browse tabs. Once selected, users can explore options and make purchases via a desktop web page. Both Free and Premium subscribers can access at least two lessons per course as a trial before purchasing full access.
