Amazon Prime Day 2024 breaks records with most items sold ever

Amazon today announced Prime Day 2024 was its biggest shopping event ever. The two-day event, held on July 16 and 17, saw record-breaking sales and the most items ever sold during a Prime Day event.

Compared to Prime Day 2023, a significantly higher number of Prime members participated in the 2024 event. According to Amazon, this surge in participation led to a record number of new Prime member sign-ups in the three weeks leading up to Prime Day.

"Prime Day 2024 was a huge success thanks to the millions of Prime members globally who turned to Amazon for fantastic deals, and our much-appreciated employees, delivery partners, and sellers around the world who helped bring the event to life for customers," said Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores.

Members took advantage of deals on popular brands like Apple, Dyson, and Ring, alongside products from small and medium-sized businesses. Members in the U.S. had access to more deals on small business products than ever before. Independent sellers on Amazon, most of which are small and medium-sized businesses, sold more than 200 million items during the event.

Prime Day Shopping Experience

The recent introduction of Rufus, Amazon's AI-powered conversational shopping assistant, aided millions of customers in navigating Amazon's vast selection. Additionally, millions of users explored Amazon Inspire, an in-app shopping experience that allows users to discover products through videos and images shared by other customers, influencers, and brands.

Environmental Impact

Prime members in the U.S. chose to consolidate deliveries on millions of orders during Prime Day, leading to an estimated 10 million fewer delivery trips. This consolidation can result in lower overall carbon emissions.
