Amazon on October 8, 2026 unveiled a three-model tablet range that runs Android, offers access to the Play Store and builds in the Alexa+ assistant, with starting prices of $229.99, $329.99 and $499.99 and deliveries from October 14.

In Short

Amazon has put three new tablets on sale that run Android, can use Google's app store and have its Alexa+ voice assistant built in. They matter because a tablet is a screen where people read, watch, shop and talk to an AI assistant, and Amazon's announcement says nothing about whether advertising will appear there. Amazon said they are available to buy from October 8, 2026, with first deliveries on October 14 in the US, Mexico and Canada and on October 19 in five European countries.

The range, prices and ship dates

According to Amazon, the range comprises the Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, the Alexa Tablet 11 and the Alexa Tablet 8. All three have aluminum unibody bodies and run Android, and each comes with access to Google's full Play Store - millions of apps, the company says, including YouTube, Netflix, Gmail and Google Docs. Amazon's own services sit alongside them: Prime Video, Kindle, Audible, Amazon Music, Amazon Quick and Amazon Luna are built in. Kevin Keith, Amazon's vice president of devices, wrote the post that carries the October 8, 2026 date.

Starting prices, according to Amazon, are $499.99 for the 12 Pro with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, with the Nanomate display version from $549.99; $329.99 for the Tablet 11 with 8GB and 64GB; and $229.99 for the Tablet 8 with 4GB and 64GB. Two accessories are made for the 12 Pro alone, the Pro Keyboard at $149.99 and the Pro Pen at $89.99. Adding the listed starting prices of the Nanomate 12 Pro, the keyboard and the pen gives $789.97, before any protective folio.

Shipping begins on October 14, 2026 in the United States, Mexico and Canada, and on October 19 in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain, according to Amazon. Purchases run through Amazon.com and select retailers, among them Best Buy and Target. Every price in the announcement is in US dollars. The post carries no figures in other currencies for the eight markets of the main range, and it does not separate order dates by market.

Hardware: a 6.5mm slab and a 4nm chip

The 12 Pro carries most of the claims. Amazon calls it "the most advanced tablet we've ever built". Stamped from a single piece of aluminum, it measures 6.5mm thick and has a 12-inch display at 280 pixels per inch, a 120Hz refresh rate and a 3:2 aspect ratio that Amazon says gives more usable screen space. Inside is a 4nm, eight-core chip with RAM of up to 16GB. By Amazon's account, processing is nearly three times faster and graphics nine times faster than on any tablet it has shipped; the post offers no benchmark and names no comparison model. Four Dolby Atmos speakers, Wi-Fi 6E and 16 hours of video playback, the longest Amazon has offered on a tablet, complete the list.

The post does not name the chip or its maker. The Echo launch of September 30, 2025 went the other way, when Amazon named its AZ3 and AZ3 Pro silicon for four new devices, among them the Echo Show 8 and Echo Show 11.

One passage is hard to reconcile. The 12 Pro is first described as carrying up to 16GB of RAM; the Nanomate model is then said to go "further, with even more processing power with up to 16GB of RAM". The starting configuration is listed at 8GB. The post does not state which memory tiers exist, whether 16GB is offered with the standard display, or what such a configuration costs.

The Nanomate display

The anti-glare option, Nanomate, gets a process-level description. According to Amazon, it worked with Corning on a photolithography process that etches a pixel-aligned texture into the glass at the sub-pixel level. Conventional matte screens, the post says, are sandblasted, which scatters light unevenly. Amazon describes the result as a "first-of-its-kind cinematic viewing experience" with strong contrast retention in bright conditions. The same etched surface is credited with a natural friction when writing with the Pro Pen. At the listed starting prices, the option costs $50. The post cites no measurements of reflectance, haze or sharpness, so the claims remain Amazon's own.

The Tablet 11 and Tablet 8

The Tablet 11 is positioned for streaming, gaming, reading and browsing. It has an 11-inch 2.5K display at 276 pixels per inch, 90Hz scrolling, a 16:10 aspect ratio, an eight-core processor with 8GB of RAM, dual Dolby Atmos speakers and up to 15 hours of video playback, in Graphite, Amethyst or Matcha. The Tablet 8, at 329g and 7.95mm, is the portable end of the range: an 8.7-inch display in an all-aluminum body, an eight-core processor, Wi-Fi 6 and up to 14 hours of video, in Graphite, Rosette or Teal.

Pen, keyboard and the Kindle mode

Both accessories are designed exclusively for the 12 Pro. The Pro Pen is a USI 2.0 active pen with 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity, tilt detection, magnetic docking and wireless charging. The Pro Keyboard attaches magnetically without Bluetooth pairing, and Amazon cites email, Slack and AI coding apps as candidates for side-by-side windows, with separate work and personal profiles.

Reading has its own mode. When a book is opened in the Kindle app, notifications go silent, blue light is reduced and battery life stretches to as much as 20 hours, according to Amazon. Three display themes are offered: a warm tone with natural color, a softened paper tone and pure grayscale. Highlights, underlines and handwritten notes made with the pen sync across Kindle apps on pen-supported devices and on Kindle Scribe.

Software: Android with Amazon's services on top

The software description fits in a sentence: the tablets run Android and come with access to the full Play Store. The post never uses the Fire name and does not say whether the Fire tablet line continues. Amazon's earlier Fire tablets ran Fire OS, a modified build of Android centered on Amazon's own content and lacking Google apps, according to Laptop Mag's review of the 2019 Fire 7. Amazon's screens are not converging on a single platform, either: the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, unveiled on September 30, 2025 at $39.99, runs Vega, Amazon's own operating system.

Also absent are camera specifications, battery capacities and any commitment on operating-system updates. Amazon says only that the tablets are "going to get even better over time".

Alexa+ on a tablet

Alexa+ is built into the core of every tablet, according to Amazon. Saying "Alexa" or tapping an "Ask Alexa" button brings up the assistant without leaving the current app, in an interface customized for tablets, and responses draw on the owner's content, smart home devices, recommendations and preferences from sign-in.

On-Screen Intelligence lets Alexa read what is displayed. Amazon's examples include asking which of several hikes is best while browsing trails, and asking Alexa to add every date on a game schedule to a calendar, with conflicts flagged. Live sessions open a continuous, hands-free conversation with no wake word between questions. With On-Screen Intelligence enabled, a screen-sharing option lets Alexa follow the display as it changes; the examples involve other companies' apps - a recipe on Pinterest whose key details Alexa extracts, and a product in a TikTok video that Alexa can be asked to find on Amazon.

On privacy, Amazon states that every On-Screen Intelligence feature is "off by default and requires a deliberate opt-in", that a visual indicator appears whenever Alexa can see the screen, and that the feature can be switched off from Settings at any time. The home screen carries a personalized feed combining what has been watched, read, listened to and played, plus a new Dynamic Tab that surfaces unfinished content, recommendations and suggestions.

The post does not state whether the tablet features require a paid plan. Alexa+ has been included for US Prime members at no extra cost since February 4, 2026, while other customers pay $19.99 a month for unlimited access. Nor does the post list the markets in which the features are live. Amazon has widened the assistant's reach in steps: Samsung televisions and BMW cars were announced on January 6, 2026, Bose speakers on May 5, and an expansion to Germany, Austria, France and Brazil came with the second-quarter results on July 30. On August 19, Alexa+ became included on compatible US Fire TV devices. Tablets add another class of device to that list.

Amazon Kids Tablets

Alongside the main range, Amazon unveiled Amazon Kids Tablets, sold as ready-to-go bundles: a device, a kid-proof case and a year of Amazon Kids+, in 8.7-inch and 11-inch sizes. Two versions exist, for pre-K children aged 3 and up and for children aged 6 and up. Younger children get a soft bumper case in designs from franchises such as Paw Patrol and Barbie, older ones a slim hard case with a built-in kickstand. Amazon Kids+ gains creative tools including Storybuilder, with which children use their voice to create illustrated stories, and a redesigned Parent Dashboard that gives parents weekly insight into what their children are exploring and learning. No bundle prices appear in the post. The Kids Tablets also ship in Japan on October 14, a market not named for the main range.

Advertising: the question the post skips

Nothing in the announcement mentions advertising. The post carries no reference to sponsored placements, lock-screen offers, ad-supported pricing or ad-free tiers, and the personalized feed and Dynamic Tab are described only as personalization. Amazon's earlier Fire tablets were different in at least one respect: according to Laptop Mag's review of the 2019 Fire 7, they carried lock-screen ads unless buyers paid more. The new range lists one starting price per model.

Why does the silence matter beyond the tablets themselves? Because of the way Amazon has treated Alexa+ elsewhere. PPC Land's coverage of the June 2026 opening of Alexa+ ad inventory observed that new Alexa+ features have tended to arrive without advertising and to have it added afterwards. Conversational Entertainment Ads reached eligible Echo Show devices on April 7, 2026 as a managed buy through Amazon's demand-side platform (DSP), and on June 17 the format opened to self-serve buyers of Sponsored Tiles. Customers can respond by voice or touch to subscribe to Prime Video Channels or to buy or rent titles, a model known as transactional video on demand, or TVOD. The ad is a visual tile shown alongside Alexa+'s spoken answer, so it cannot run without a display. The new tablets are displays with Alexa+ built in; the announcement does not say whether they are, or will become, eligible inventory.

Fire Tablet already figured in Amazon's ad plumbing. When the company consolidated its first-party ad inventory on January 15, 2025, Fire Tablet was among the named properties; Fire TV, Fire Tablet and grocery online supported display advertising but not online video, and the inventory was bought through the self-serve DSP. Whether the new tablets succeed Fire tablets in that inventory is not addressed. On Fire TV, PPC Land noted in August 2026 that Amazon had not said whether sponsored content would appear in Alexa+ responses. The tablet announcement leaves the equivalent question open.

The commercial weight behind those questions is considerable. Amazon's advertising services revenue was $68.6 billion in 2025 and $19.8 billion in the second quarter of 2026, up 26%. Amazon Ads separately lists Alexa+ Agentic Ads, in which a shopper completes a purchase inside the conversation, among formats available on Echo Show devices, according to Amazon Ads.

The screen-sharing examples in the tablet post sketch a shopping route that begins in another company's app and ends in Amazon's store. The post does not say how such journeys would be measured or attributed, or whether any data flows back to the app where they start. It is also silent on home screen advertising, although the personalized feed and Dynamic Tab occupy that space. For now, the announcement supplies specifications, prices and ship dates; the advertising terms, if any, have yet to appear.
