Prime Video and 5&2 Studios on October 15, 2026 released the trailer for season six of The Chosen and set its streaming premiere for November 15, 2026, with three episodes on day one and a weekly episode through December 6. The season ends not on a streaming service but in cinemas, with a stand-alone film opening on March 12, 2027 - 117 days after the first episodes go live and the reverse of the theaters-first order Amazon used for season five.

In Short

The Chosen, a TV show about the life of Jesus, will put its sixth season on Amazon's Prime Video on November 15, and then finish the story with a film in cinemas in March 2027. Last season it went the other way, showing in cinemas first and only reaching Prime Video months later. That change puts a widely watched religious drama on Amazon's ad-supported streaming service in the run-up to Christmas, while the cinema release waits until spring.

What the release says

The announcement came from Culver City, California, in a release dated October 15, 2026 and published on Prime Video's press site. A second Prime Video page, a title page for "The Chosen Season 6," carries no publication date but lists the same launch date of November 15, 2026. The date of the news in this article is the release's dateline; neither document gives a time.

According to Prime Video, the season has six episodes. Three debut on November 15, a Sunday. A single episode follows each week through December 6, which also falls on a Sunday, so the streaming run lasts 22 days from start to finish. Then comes the theatrical piece. The release says the season "will culminate with a stand-alone film coming to theaters on March 12, 2027." That date is a Friday.

Availability is wider than a single market. Beyond the United States, the release lists Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Sub-Saharan Africa, the UK and Latin America. The season page lists the same seven territories under "Country Availability." Seasons one through five are, according to Prime Video, "now streaming on Prime Video."

The release supplies a logline for the season, repeated word for word on the title page: "The hour has come. Before the sun sets, Jesus of Nazareth will be dead." The season, according to Prime Video, "captures the historic events of Jesus' final day through the lives of those who love Him." Its marketing copy frames the conflict in three short lines: "Pharisees call it justice. Romans call it peace. Followers call it murder."

Jonathan Roumie returns as Jesus. The release names eleven other cast members: Shahar Isaac as Peter, Paras Patel as Matthew, Elizabeth Tabish as Mary Magdalene, Noah James as Andrew, George H. Xanthis as John, Abe Bueno-Jallad as Big James, Vanessa Benavente as Mother Mary, Luke Dimyan as Judas, Richard Fancy as Caiaphas, Paul Ben-Victor as King Herod and Andrew James Allen as Pontius Pilate.

The release order has reversed

Season five ran the other way round. The Wikipedia article on the series, the third document supplied, says Dallas Jenkins announced a deal with Amazon MGM Studios in February 2025 to distribute theatrical releases of season five, branded The Chosen: Last Supper, from March 2025. Under that deal, according to the same article, Amazon acquired the right to stream season five exclusively on Prime Video for 90 days, after which the show would be made available for free. All eight episodes went to cinemas in three parts on March 27, April 3 and April 10, 2025. Prime Video streaming followed on June 15, 2025.

Wikipedia's lead paragraph describes the Amazon arrangement in broader terms, as a deal for 5&2 Studios "to premiere episodes of Seasons 5, 6, and 7 in theaters, followed by a 90-day exclusivity window on Amazon Prime Video, before being made available for free." Season six, as Prime Video now describes it, does not follow that pattern. Episodes go to streaming first; only the closing film is a cinema release. Neither Prime Video page explains the change.

Nor do the Prime Video documents say anything about the 90-day window. The release says the season is "premiering exclusively" on Prime Video, but gives no period after which the episodes become free elsewhere. A footnote in the Wikipedia article states that, beginning with season five, episodes are exclusive to Prime Video for 90 days before being made available on the show's website. Ninety days from November 15 would fall on February 13, 2027, about four weeks before the film opens - a calculation from the two documents, not a date either source gives.

The Prime Video release describes the terms of the 2025 agreement in its own way. "In 2025, Amazon MGM Studios inked a first-look multi-faceted deal with 5&2 Studios," it says. According to Prime Video, that deal covers streaming rights to the first five seasons, the unscripted series The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls, the animated series The Chosen Adventures and a project called Joseph of Egypt. It also includes "theatrical and streaming rights to The Chosen's upcoming final two seasons, which will follow the crucifixion (Season Six) and the resurrection (Season Seven)." Lionsgate handles global distribution for The Chosen and for The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls, according to the release.

Why an ad-supported service matters here

For advertisers, the relevant fact is where these episodes will be watched. Prime Video has carried ads by default since early 2024; PPC Land reported in January 2024 that Amazon began showing ads in Prime Video in the US that month, with the UK, Canada, Germany and Austria following in February. Members who want to avoid ads now pay more. In the US, the ad-free add-on was renamed Prime Video Ultra and raised from $2.99 to $4.99 a month, effective April 10, 2026.

Prime Video is therefore an AVOD service by default, layered on top of a paid Prime membership - a hybrid that blurs the line with SVOD. Amazon reported an average ad-supported audience of 315 million viewers globally in its fourth-quarter 2025 results, up from 200 million in April 2024, alongside $21.3 billion in fourth-quarter advertising revenue and $68.6 billion for the full year. By the second quarter of 2026, advertising revenue had grown 26% to $19.8 billion.

Not every market has welcomed the model. In Australia, the competition regulator sued Amazon in June 2026 over contract terms that let it introduce Prime Video ads for existing annual subscribers without a pro rata refund right. Australia is one of the seven markets where season six will stream.

The release's own boilerplate points at the same commercial structure. According to Prime Video, customers can "enjoy even more content for free with ads," and the service offers "more than 500 free ad-supported (FAST) Channels." Those FAST channels sit alongside on-demand titles such as The Chosen and live sport, including Thursday Night Football, the WNBA and the NWSL, which the release also lists.

Live sport has been the core of Amazon's pitch to buyers so far. Alan Moss, Amazon's vice president of global advertising sales, said in May 2026 that Prime Video and live sports are now one business. A scripted religious drama with its own established audience is a different kind of inventory - one that arrives on Sunday nights, in holiday season, across seven markets.

A crowded November on Prime Video

The Chosen will not have the platform to itself. At Amazon's upfront in New York on May 11, 2026, the company dated the third season of The Rings of Power for November 11, 2026, four days before The Chosen returns. Amazon also secured the Emmys as an exclusive Prime Video broadcast from 2027, ending a rotation among ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC, a deal PPC Land covered on October 6, 2026. That article noted that whether the Emmys stream would carry ads, and who would sell the inventory, had not been disclosed.

The audience Amazon is buying into

The scale claims for the series come from its producers rather than independent measurement. According to the Wikipedia article, the producers estimated in 2025 that the show has been watched by 280 million people worldwide, "a third of whom are not religious." An independent consultant hired by the producers put the figure at more than 108 million people in November 2022. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported 200 million viewers and 770 million episode views as of January 2024, according to the same article.

On Prime Video itself, Wikipedia says the show reached the number one position in the US after the season five debut and stayed in the platform's top 10 rankings through 2025. It has also charted on Netflix in Brazil, Honduras and Paraguay. Amazon's release calls the show a "global phenomenon" and a "fan-favorite series"; it gives no viewing figures of its own.

Cinema numbers are more concrete. The Wikipedia box office table lists ten theatrical releases from December 2021 to April 2025 with a combined gross of $120,855,276. The largest single entry is The Chosen Last Supper: Part 1, released March 27, 2025, at $25,064,897. That sits awkwardly with the article's body text, which says the first part grossed "nearly $20.2 million domestically." The table does not say whether its figures are domestic or worldwide, so the two numbers may measure different things. Wikipedia reports that the three parts of Last Supper together became the highest-grossing release by Fathom Events, a record it says was surpassed in 2026.

Season five also posted an opening weekend of $11.49 million, according to Wikipedia, above the $8.77 million that season three's theatrical release took in November 2022. The season five trailer reached the top of YouTube's trending list and passed one million views in under 24 hours.

A show built outside the usual funding system

How The Chosen reached Amazon matters for anyone tracking where content money comes from. Wikipedia describes the first season as the most successful crowd-funded TV series in history. A first fundraising round, using a provision of the JOBS Act that took effect in 2016, raised $11 million from more than 16,000 investors, each of whom received equity. Season two fundraising had raised more than $6 million from over 300,000 contributors by July 1, 2020. Through 2021, the average contribution was $65.

Distribution was just as unusual. The first season was released in 2019 on VidAngel's subscription service. During the early weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic in March and April 2020, the producers made it free through The Chosen's own app, and viewership rose. Jenkins attributed the revenue increase that followed to "God's impossible math," according to Wikipedia, and the producers then made the free-to-watch model permanent. Revenue now comes from theatrical runs, platform and network licensing, merchandise and media sales, and viewer contributions.

That model came under strain. In March 2024, according to Wikipedia, Jenkins delayed the streaming release of season four over a breach of contract dispute between The Chosen, LLC and Angel Studios, and said the previous crowdfunding method was proving unsustainable given production costs. A non-profit, the Come and See Foundation, has managed funding since October 2022 and pays for translation; Wikipedia says it aims to dub the show into 100 languages and subtitle it into 600. As of January 2024, the series was dubbed into nearly 50 languages.

The Amazon deal of February 2025 followed that dispute. 5&2 Studios, according to Prime Video's description, now "operates its own distribution, marketing, studio facilities, and consumer products." Its production base is a $20 million complex in Midlothian, Texas, built with the National Christian Foundation and the Impact Foundation on the site of a former Salvation Army camp, according to Wikipedia.

Marketing that runs through the fans

The producers' marketing has relied heavily on direct contact with viewers. Wikipedia says the company employs a dedicated social media staff and a video team for behind-the-scenes coverage, and that Jenkins hosts regular livestreams and viewing parties. Trailers have been cut to appeal to specific denominations.

One campaign went wrong. For Easter 2022, according to Wikipedia, 48 of the show's 70 billboards across the US were altered to look as though they had been defaced, with phrases such as "The Chosen is boring" and a link to a site called "Chosensux.com." Many fans thought the vandalism was real, and Jenkins apologised in April for not explaining the campaign beforehand.

A fan convention, ChosenCon, drew around 3,500 people in Dallas in 2023 and more than 5,000 in Orlando in 2024, according to the same article. The next edition was held in Charlotte, North Carolina, in February 2026.

Production and what comes after

According to Wikipedia, season six began filming on April 14, 2025, with scenes shot in Goshen, Utah, and crucifixion scenes filmed in Matera, Italy. Filming concluded in September 2025. The seventh and final season started filming on April 27, 2026, wrapped in September 2026 and is due in 2028, according to the same source. The Prime Video release refers to the series as a "seven-season series" but does not give a date for season seven.

The franchise around it has grown on Prime Video. The animated The Chosen Adventures arrived there on October 17, 2025, and the six-episode The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls on August 9, 2026, according to Wikipedia. Series based on the Acts of the Apostles and on the lives of Joseph and Moses are in development.

Gaps and discrepancies in the documents

Several points are not settled by the three files. Prime Video's release does not say whether the 90-day exclusive window described by Wikipedia applies to season six, nor whether the stand-alone film will later stream on Prime Video. It does not explain why the theatrical-first order used for season five was dropped for season six, though Wikipedia's lead paragraph still describes the Amazon deal as a theatrical-first arrangement for seasons five, six and seven.

The release dates the Amazon deal only to "2025"; Wikipedia places the announcement in February 2025 and cites a Deadline article of February 17, 2025, whose headline refers to US streaming rights. The release, by contrast, lists seven territories for season six. Whether the international rights were part of the original deal or added later is not stated in either document.

There is also a minor wording difference. The release calls the closing piece a "stand-alone film" with which the season will culminate, and the season page does not mention it at all. Wikipedia describes it as "the season finale in theaters." The release counts six episodes, which matches three on November 15 plus three weekly releases on November 22, November 29 and December 6; the film appears to be additional to those six.
