To leap ahead of an ever-evolving media landscape, Peter Mayer has added former Facebook Creative Shop Global Lead of Creative Partnerships Desmond LaVelle as Vice President, Executive Creative Director.
LaVelle brings more than two decades of national & international brand experience, award-winning creative excellence and thought leadership to Louisiana’s largest full-service marketing firm. He will oversee Peter Mayer’s creative, studio and development departments, and he will report to Josh Mayer, the agency’s Chief Creative Officer.
“Adding an outstanding executive creative director signals our commitment to bringing our clients the best and most contemporary creative solutions available,” said Agency President Mark Mayer. “We are dedicated to developing work that is socially engaging and merges both creative and media fields.”
In addition to six years with Facebook Creative Shop working to co-create the future of brand storytelling with the global creative community, LaVelle was a senior vice president and creative director with two leading marketing firms – Leo Burnett and FCB San Francisco. He has led award winning and needle-moving campaigns for major national brands, including Esurance, Coca-Cola, Target, Samsung, Budweiser, Altoids, Corona, Kellogg’s, Proctor & Gamble, Hallmark and the Dockers brand for Levi’s.
“The trend has been that leading creative talent has been moving from agencies to clients or to digital platforms,” said Michelle Edelman, chief strategy officer for Peter Mayer. “Desmond’s move to our agency from Facebook shows agencies can still be creative engines to create content that reaches all of the platforms that comprise today’s media landscape.”
As to why he was interested in joining a mid-sized agency in New Orleans from a global giant like Facebook, LaVelle said, “Peter Mayer is the perfect size, has a great history, and has a roster of clients that would give me the opportunity to make a difference in the creative world. And, the City of New Orleans is a big cultural draw that inspires my creative passion.”
“Desmond’s experience elevates the agency’s already sharp focus on developing outstanding creative work for our clients and prospective clients,” said Josh Mayer. “As we mark 50 years in business, having an outstanding creative mind from Silicon Valley join the Peter Mayer team is an exciting signal for marketing in New Orleans and the region.”
Since opening in 1967, Peter Mayer has employed about 1,300 people and worked with more than 1,000 clients. The firm specializes in creative development, public relations, media planning and placement, digital communications, social media management, research and analytics and strategic planning.
