According to Google, the feature Explanations is available for manual CPC or eCPC Search campaigns. Explanations can compare two time periods of equal length within the last 90 days, and Explanations may only show for campaigns with significant performance changes.
Pallavi Naresh, Product Manager at Google Ads, wrote that Google will continue to expand the functionality of Explanation in the coming months, while the feature is still in beta.
