Adobe has released its new Firefly application that integrates image, vector, and video generation capabilities. According to Adobe's announcement from February 12, 2025, the platform now includes the Firefly Video Model in public beta, marking a significant development in commercially safe AI-generated video content.
The announcement comes as part of Adobe's strategy to expand its generative AI offerings. The Firefly Video Model, which powers the Generate Video feature in beta, supports 1080p resolution for video generation. According to the company's documentation, Adobe plans to introduce both a lower resolution model for rapid ideation and a 4K version for professional production work.
The new Firefly application introduces several technical capabilities. The Generate Video feature allows creative professionals to generate video clips from text prompts or images, manipulate camera angles, create professional-quality images from 3D sketches, and develop motion design elements. The platform includes tools for atmospheric elements and supports direct integration with Adobe's Creative Cloud applications.
Adobe has structured the pricing into distinct tiers. The Firefly Standard plan, priced at $9.99 USD, provides access to 2,000 video and audio credits monthly, enabling up to 20 five-second 1080p video generations. The Firefly Pro plan, at $29.99 USD, increases the allocation to 7,000 credits, allowing up to 70 five-second 1080p video generations per month.
The technical infrastructure behind Firefly's development reveals Adobe's approach to AI training. According to Adobe's documentation, the Firefly models are trained exclusively on Adobe Stock content, openly licensed materials, and public domain content where copyright has expired. This approach aims to address commercial usage rights concerns.
Several major organizations have already implemented the technology. According to James Thomas, Global Creative Technology Officer at Dentsu Creative, their teams have been using Firefly for proof of concept development and storyboarding. Merrill Raman, Global Chief Technology Officer at Stagwell, reports integration of the tool into their agency workflows.
The platform includes multi-modal workflows that enable creators to move between different types of content generation. The system supports translation of audio into multiple languages while maintaining voice characteristics, and includes tools for 3D sketching and reference shape creation.
Adobe has implemented Content Credentials, a metadata system that provides attribution and transparency for AI-generated content. This system allows verification of AI-generated content through an Inspect tool in the Adobe Content Authenticity web application.
The development represents Adobe's continued focus on expanding its generative AI capabilities while maintaining commercial viability and addressing intellectual property concerns in content creation.
