Google yesterday announced plans to improve cookie controls on Chrome. Google says it will aggressively restrict fingerprinting across the web and will make it easier for users to block or clear cookies used in a third-party context.
Chrome will use a mechanism based on the web’s SameSite cookie attribute. Chrome will require developers to use this mechanism to access their cookies across sites.
According to Google, this change will enable users to clear all such cookies while leaving single domain cookies unaffected, preserving user logins and settings. It will also enable browsers to provide information about which sites are setting these cookies, so users can make choices about how their data is used.
