Google Ads API unveils v16 with enhanced features and streamlined workflows
Google Ads API

Google this week announced the release of version 16 (v16) of the Google Ads API, introducing a suite of new features designed to enhance campaign management capabilities and provide deeper campaign insights for developers.

Key Highlights:

  • Expanded Recommendation Engine: v16 introduces new recommendation types, including "MAXIMIZE_CONVERSION_VALUE_OPT_IN" and "IMPROVE_DEMAND_GEN_AD_STRENGTH," enabling developers to optimize campaigns for specific objectives. Additionally, the new RecommendationService.GenerateRecommendations() method generates tailored recommendations based on user-defined settings, simplifying campaign creation and optimization.
  • Granular Segmentation: Developers can now leverage time-related segments like "segments.year" and "segments.month" within asset groups, offering more granular insights into campaign performance.
  • Streamlined Account Management: The migration of "advertising_partner" from "AccountLink" to dedicated "ProductLink" and "ProductLinkInvitation" structures improves organization and clarity within accounts. Furthermore, the addition of "primary_status" and "primary_status_reasons" fields provides deeper understanding of ad group and ad group ad performance.
  • Enhanced Advertiser Verification and Demand Gen Support: v16 introduces the "IdentityVerificationService" for programmatic initiation and management of advertiser verification workflows. Additionally, it allows setting "Campaign.shopping_setting" for existing Demand Gen campaigns, along with new fields like "ShoppingSetting.disable_product_feed" and "Ad.demand_gen_product_ad" for finer control over Demand Gen campaigns.

Additional Improvements:

  • Experiment Synchronization: The new "Experiment.sync_enabled" feature allows applying changes made to the original campaign directly to the experiment campaign while it's running, saving developers time and effort.
  • Clearer Keyword Recommendations: Recommended keywords with missing match types now have "recommended_match_type" set to "UNSPECIFIED" for better clarity.
  • Local Services Updates: New reports and functionalities enable developers to track Local Services business registration verification progress and access employee information.
