SiriusXM expands golf content with live TGL broadcast partnership
SiriusXM to provide live coverage of tech-enhanced TGL golf league matches featuring Tiger Woods and PGA TOUR stars.
Four days after the announcement, SiriusXM is set to broadcast Tiger Woods' first TGL match, marking a significant expansion in golf content delivery. The partnership agreement, announced on January 13, 2025, establishes SiriusXM as the audio broadcaster for the entire TGL season running through March.
According to TMRW Sports and SiriusXM, the coverage launches with Woods leading Jupiter Links Golf Club against Los Angeles Golf Club on January 14 at 7 pm ET. The match features Woods alongside teammates Max Homa and Kevin Kisner competing against Collin Morikawa, Justin Rose, and Sahith Theegala.
The technical setup at SoFi Center, located on Palm Beach State College's campus in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, integrates advanced technology into the traditional golf format. Teams compete across 15 specially designed holes combining virtual and physical elements. The facility implements multiple technological innovations throughout its playing field, creating a hybrid competitive environment.
SiriusXM's broadcast team consists of Taylor Zarzour and John Maginnes, who will provide live commentary from the SoFi Center. The coverage includes direct audio feeds from participating players, who will wear microphones throughout their matches. This audio integration allows listeners to experience the players' real-time reactions and interactions during competition.
The broadcast structure utilizes multiple distribution channels. Primary coverage airs on the SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio channel, available to subscribers on channel 92 in vehicles and through the SiriusXM mobile application. Additionally, most TGL matches will simultaneously broadcast on ESPN Xtra, SiriusXM channel 81, expanding the potential audience reach.
This TGL coverage joins SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio's existing golf programming lineup, which includes live broadcasts of PGA TOUR tournaments, major championships, and collegiate events for both men and women. The addition of TGL matches enhances the channel's comprehensive golf content offering.
The league structure consists of six teams: Atlanta Drive GC, Boston Common Golf, Jupiter Links Golf Club, Los Angeles Golf Club, New York Golf Club, and The Bay Golf Club. Each team features PGA TOUR professionals competing in a season-long format designed for prime-time television.
SiriusXM's parent company, Sirius XM Holdings Inc., maintains a substantial presence in North American audio entertainment. The company's portfolio encompasses multiple audio services, including its primary subscription entertainment platform SiriusXM, Pandora's advertising-supported and premium music streaming services, and an extensive podcast network. These combined services reach approximately 150 million monthly listeners across various content categories, including music, talk, news, and sports programming.
Technical specifications for the broadcast include standard vehicle receiver access on channel 92, mobile application integration, and simultaneous streaming capabilities. The dual-channel distribution strategy, utilizing both the dedicated golf channel and ESPN Xtra, provides multiple access points for audience engagement.
The timing of matches, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday evenings, represents a departure from traditional golf tournament scheduling. This prime-time positioning aims to accommodate viewing patterns outside standard tournament hours. The season's competitive structure runs from January through March 2025, establishing a concentrated programming block for the inaugural season.
Media access to TGL content extends beyond live broadcasts through the TGL Media Hub, which provides downloadable assets including explanatory content, logos, player and team images, and detailed schedule information. This resource center supports comprehensive coverage across multiple media platforms.
The announcement of this broadcast partnership comes as SiriusXM continues to expand its sports programming portfolio. The company's approach combines traditional sports coverage with technological integration, reflecting broader industry trends in sports content delivery and consumption.
