Amazon reports Record-Breaking Holiday Season, Strong 2023 Performance

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) today announced strong financial results for its fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 2023:

  • Net sales: Increased 14% year-over-year to $170.0 billion in Q4 and 12% to $574.8 billion for the full year 2023.
  • Operating income: Increased to $13.2 billion in Q4 and $36.9 billion for the year, compared to losses in the same periods of 2022.
  • Net income: Grew to $10.6 billion ($1.00 per diluted share) in Q4 and $30.4 billion ($2.90 per diluted share) for the year, reversing net losses in 2022.
  • Free cash flow: Improved to an inflow of $36.8 billion for the trailing twelve months, compared to an outflow of $11.6 billion in the same period of 2022.

Q4 2023 Key Performance Indicators

  • North America: Net sales increased 13% year-over-year to $105.5 billion. Operating income reached $6.5 billion, compared to an operating loss of $0.2 billion in Q4 2022.
  • International: Net sales increased 17% year-over-year to $40.2 billion. Operating loss narrowed to $0.4 billion, compared to $2.2 billion in Q4 2022.
  • AWS: Net sales increased 13% year-over-year to $24.2 billion. Operating income grew to $7.2 billion, compared to $5.2 billion in Q4 2022.
