After more than four years since its launch, Apple TV+ is now accessible to Android users through a dedicated mobile application. According to Apple's announcement on February 12, 2025, Android customers can download the Apple TV app from Google Play, marking a significant expansion of the streaming service's availability.

The Android release arrives as Apple TV+ approaches its fifth anniversary since launching in November 2019. The streaming platform currently reaches an estimated 25 million paid subscribers globally, based on industry data from March 2022.

The new Android application delivers access to Apple's complete catalog of original programming through a familiar interface built specifically for Android devices. Android users can subscribe to Apple TV+ directly through their Google Play accounts, with pricing set at $6.99 per month following a seven-day trial period.

The application includes core streaming features like Continue Watching, which maintains viewing progress across different devices, and a Watchlist for saving content. Users can download content for offline viewing and stream over both WiFi and cellular connections.

For sports enthusiasts, the timing aligns with Major League Soccer's 2025 season. Android users gain access to MLS Season Pass through the app, providing complete coverage of all 30 clubs without blackout restrictions as the league enters its 30th season beginning February 22.

The streaming service has accumulated substantial industry recognition since its debut. Apple TV+ originals have received 538 wins and 2,553 award nominations to date, including multiple Emmy Awards and an Academy Award for Best Picture with CODA, marking the first such win for a streaming service.

Beyond series and films, the platform offers sports programming including Friday Night Baseball, featuring Major League Baseball double-headers without local broadcast restrictions. New for 2025, subscribers can watch Sunday Night Soccer, showcasing weekly Major League Soccer matches in primetime.

The Android launch represents the latest step in Apple's strategy to expand its streaming service reach. In October 2024, the company partnered with Amazon to offer Apple TV+ as an add-on subscription through Prime Video. Earlier developments included integrations with smart TV manufacturers and gaming consoles.

Looking at distribution, the Apple TV app functions across multiple platforms including smart TVs from manufacturers like Samsung and LG, streaming devices such as Roku and Amazon Fire TV, and gaming consoles including PlayStation and Xbox models.
