Facebook this week unveiled an upcoming change to its Marketing API designed to simplify the process for developers. Beginning in May 2024, a version auto-upgrade feature will automatically update Marketing API calls for endpoints that remain unaffected between versions.
API versioning ensures compatibility as updates are rolled out, but transitions can sometimes disrupt workflows. The auto-upgrade feature aims to minimize this by automatically transitioning calls to the next available version for unaffected endpoints. This reduces the instances of error messages and keeps apps running smoothly.
Key Points and Dates
- May 14th, 2024: Version 17.0 of the Marketing API will be deprecated. Developers should consult the Changelog: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/graph-api/changelog/versions for a full list of potentially affected endpoints.
- Auto-Upgrade Behavior: If a call targets a deprecated version and the endpoint is not affected by changes in the next version, the system will automatically upgrade it.
- Opt-Out Option: Developers can disable auto-upgrades in Settings > Ads API Version Settings under the Marketing API App Product card.
- Notification: An 'X-Ad-Api-Version-Warning' header will be included in the response when a call has been auto-upgraded.
The Facebook Marketing API is a tool for developers to manage advertising campaigns, analyze performance data, and integrate Facebook's marketing solutions into their applications.
