Google this month announced that it will be disabling websites made with Google Business Profiles (GBPs) in March 2024. This means that customers attempting to visit these websites will be redirected to the business's GBP instead. The redirect will remain active until June 10, 2024.

Businesses with websites made with GBPs have a few options:

  • Update their GBP to point to a new website. This will ensure that customers can continue to find their website after the GBP-hosted website is turned off.
  • Pause their Ads campaign if it is linked to the GBP-hosted website. This will prevent their ads from displaying until they have updated their website or paused their campaign.
  • Manage their third-party domains. If a business is using a custom domain name to forward traffic to the GBP-hosted website, they will need to forward the domain to a new website before June 10, 2024.

The decision to disable websites made with GBPs is a significant one for businesses. However, Google is providing businesses with a number of options to help them transition to a new website solution. Businesses that take action now will be able to avoid any disruption to their online presence.
