Edison Research last week released its report on the Top 50 U.S. Podcasts for Q1 2024, based on data collected from interviews with over 5,300 weekly podcast listeners aged 13 and over. The report utilizes a "reach" metric, indicating the percentage of the surveyed audience that listened to a particular podcast in the past week.

Top 3 Remain Unchanged: The top three podcasts – The Joe Rogan Experience, Crime Junkie, and The Daily – held their positions from Q4 2023.

New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce Climbs the Charts: This sports podcast, featuring NFL brothers Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce, continues its impressive rise, jumping two spots to claim the number four position.

Debuts and Notable Rises: Several podcasts made their debut in the Top 50, including Club Shay Shay (at #11), Nightcap (at #46), The Tucker Carlson Podcast (at #24), The Basement Yard (at #40), Dumb Blonde (at #45), and The Broski Report with Brittany Broski (at #48).

Departures from the Top 50: This quarter saw The Bill Simmons Podcast, H3 Podcast, Dark History, and the WTF with Marc Maron Podcast exit the Top 50 rankings.

Edison Podcast Metrics is the data source for the rankings, and it is the only U.S. podcast measurement service that includes podcasts and networks that haven't opted into other industry ranking systems. The data collection involves interviewing a representative sample of the podcast listening population and gathering information on podcast listening habits alongside demographics and purchasing behaviors.

The report also highlights the launch of "The Record," a collaborative effort between Edison Research and Nielsen that provides insights into U.S. audio listening trends. This resource utilizes Edison Research's Share of Ear® data and Nielsen data to offer a comprehensive view of time spent with ad-supported audio content.

The podcast landscape continues to evolve, with established favorites maintaining their popularity while new shows capture audience interest. Resources like Edison Research's Top Podcast Rankings and "The Record" provide valuable data for podcast creators, advertisers, and anyone interested in understanding current trends in audio entertainment.
