Vodafone and public German TV WDR testing 5G in Düsseldorf, Aldenhoven, and Cologne
WDR and Vodafone are testing how TV and media library content can be technically distributed using the new 5G transmission technology, Vodafone announced this week.
In the joint project, WDR transmits its content via a 5G test system, which Vodafone will activate directly at a TV production facility for the first time in the course of the project. The possibility of receiving TV and media library content will be tested in the course of the year - with the help of software - on a smartphone or tablet with 5G support that is still in the product development stage.
According to Vodafone, the 5G cooperation project between WDR and Vodafone is initially planned until the end of 2020.
5G tests in Düsseldorf, Aldenhoven, and Cologne
To start with, Vodafone and WDR are testing data transmission at the 5G Lab in Düsseldorf and in the 5G Mobility Lab in Aldenhoven. Vodafone says in the coming year, the fast data transmission will also start in the city center of Cologne, on the WDR campus.
