Disney+ and Apple Vision Pro have announced a partnership that will bring an unprecedented level of immersion and storytelling innovation to Disney+ subscribers.

Beginning February 2, Disney+ subscribers with an Apple Vision Pro device will be able to transform their living rooms into iconic landscapes from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars.

This new feature, called Disney+ environments, will allow viewers to experience their favorite Disney stories in a whole new way. Each environment will feature stunning visuals, captivating sounds, and even easter eggs hidden throughout the space. Viewers can choose from four different environments at launch:

  • The Disney+ Theater: Inspired by the historic El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, this environment will transport viewers to the heart of the cinematic experience.
  • The Scare Floor from Pixar's Monsters Inc.: Fans of the beloved Pixar film can now experience the Scare Floor firsthand, complete with the iconic scream canisters and spooky atmosphere.
  • Marvel's Avengers Tower: Looking out over downtown Manhattan, this environment will bring the Avengers to life in your living room.
  • The cockpit of Luke Skywalker's landspeeder: Soar through the binary sunset on Tatooine from the Star Wars galaxy in this immersive environment.

Beyond the environments, Disney+ on Apple Vision Pro will also offer an unprecedented in-home 3D experience for dozens of popular Disney movies. With Dolby Vision and Multiview High Efficiency Video Coding (MV-HEVC), 3D movies on Disney+ will deliver exceptional UHD resolution in HDR, unfiltered and independent for each eye, and at a high frame rate for several titles. This will ensure that the filmmakers' creative intent is fully preserved and reflected.

To bring these new features to life, Disney and Apple Vision Pro collaborated across multiple technology teams, including Disney Studio Technology, Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology, ILM Immersive, and Skywalker Sound. Disney+ environments were developed using the Universal Scene Description (USD) format, originally developed by Pixar and open sourced in 2016. This format allows developers to work simultaneously and collaboratively across creation tools and development pipelines to compose complex 3D experiences.

The partnership between Disney+ and Apple Vision Pro represents a significant step forward in the evolution of storytelling and entertainment. By combining Disney's rich storytelling legacy with Apple Vision Pro's innovative technology, this new platform will offer viewers an immersive and unforgettable experience that will transport them to the heart of their favorite Disney stories.
