Google last week announced that starting on January 7, 2019, SMS notifications from Google Calendar will no longer be available. Google suggests using in-app notifications instead of SMS notifications.

In-app notifications on Google Calendar are available via Google Calendar app for Android or iOS, or via a web browser that has Calendar open or a mobile device.

Google is also updating the Calendar API to support this change.
