Google introduces Deals in Search Results

Google yesterday announced it is introducing deals in the Shopping tab, on search results. Starting yesterday, users in the US will see “Deals related to your search” on the shopping search results.

Google says that searches for “discount code” have increased 50% since last year, and that Deals will also begin to appear on the main Search results page in the coming months.

Back-to-school season, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday are moments when deal-seeking consumers search for products with deals and promotions. Google expects to bridge the connection between deal-seeking consumers and businesses looking to promote their products with the Deals.

Users searching for “backpacks” may see a new section that will show backpacks that are competitively priced or discounted from retailers across the web.

Retailers can display their products for free via Merchant Center. Google clarifies Deals are shown based on factors such as the discount itself, how popular a product is, and how popular the site it’s listed on is.
