WordPress 5 goes live today

The new version of Wordpress is being launched today, Matt Mullenweg, Founder & CEO at Automattic announced yesterday.

Matt Mullenweg wrote that "based on the stability, testing, and reports on the release candidates for WordPress 5.0 so far, Automattic is now targeting Thursday, December 6th for public release and announcement. "

The WordPress version 5 has a new editor by default called Gutenberg that introduces edition in blocks. Already over 1.3 million sites have already opted into either the Gutenberg or Classic Editor plugin. Matt Mullenweg says this number is more than any single version of WP prior to 4.7. Those sites will notice nothing change besides a version number.

According to W3Techs, WordPress is used by 59.5% of all the websites whose content management system (CMS) they know. This is 32.5% of all websites.
