Reddit last year launched a new feature designed to help users identify verified accounts. Beginning with a small test group, some organizational profiles now include an "Official" label displayed next to their usernames.
This is the case for Bloomberg and the Washington Post.
The move aims to improve the platform's authenticity, reduce impersonation, and encourage direct interaction between communities and legitimate organizations. Reddit emphasizes that this feature is a visual indicator only and does not come with any additional privileges on the platform.
This development separates authenticated organizational accounts from the existing "Promoted" label that designates paid advertising on the platform.
According to Reddit, the initial test involved a limited number of accounts already known to Reddit. The company hasn't disclosed how other businesses or individuals might qualify for a similar verification process in the future.
