AdMob has launched a new feature this month that allows app publisher to specify the content rating for Google ads. The content rating is called digital content labels.

According to Alexa Haushalter, Product Manager at AdMob, "with the new max_ad_content_rating signal, publishers can now choose the content rating."  The Google Mobile Ads SDK have an Android and an iOS guide.

There are four content rating choices:

  • G: Content suitable for general audiences;
  • PG: Content suitable for most audiences with parental guidance;
  • T: Content suitable for teen and older audiences;
  • MA: Content suitable only for mature audiences;

The content ratings are important to be selected as many advertisers, due to brand safety, choose to not advertise on content not classified by the publishers. This is reducing the monetization on app publishers using Google Ad Exchange.
